53 gallons of soda a year can make aging faster??

We just posted a link on our facebook page with a pie chart of what the average American eats in a year. (Check out our fb page!). The article showed that Americans consume on average 53 gallons of soda a year (about a gallon a week!). What's the big deal you ask? I guess it depends on how you feel about aging. New research from Havard shows that the high levels of phosphate in sodas and processed foods accelerates the aging process in mice.

Chick-fil-A: One of Georgia's own

Today we've added Georgia's own Chick-fil-A! Aside from starting and still being based out of Georgia, we like this restaurant for a few other reasons. For one, they hire Registered Dietitians! I've actually attended some presentations by a Chick-fil-A Dietitian. They also use fresh ingredients and cut their own veggies, bread their own chicken and brew their own tea. They have quite a few healthy sides and options for Breakfast and Lunch/Dinner. In addition, they are using more recycled products and have other "green" efforts.

Bonefish Grill - Don't Let Today Get Away

Bonefish grill has now been added to our list of restaurants, and not a minute too soon! This restaurant has great options for a healthy lunch and dinner. In fact, they received a #1 Zagat rating in 2010 for Top Food, Top Service, Best Seafood and Top Healthy Options. We definitely agree! This restaurant first opened in Florida and they make sure to shop responsibly for their fish and seafood and invest in sea turtle restoration. Just more reasons to love them! They have a Gluten Free menu with a lot of variety and even GF desserts and cocktails.

Arby's - It's Good Mood Food

Well, we've just added another restaurant! It is a chain, but it's not a typical burger or chicken joint. Arby's is known for their Roast Beef Sandwich's. You'll be happy to know, those famous sandwiches did make the Jeatwell cut for a few diets. Arby's also serves Breakfast for those of you who are stuck in Airports, hotels, or just on the road early. Since this chain offers their nutritional analysis to the public, we were able to calculate specific meal options for those on Calorie restricted diets.

Back in Action!!!

After taking a year off, we're back! A lot has happened this past year. We worked out a few technical kinks with the site. Hopefully, the time off will make the site easier to use. It will certainly make it easier to add more information and get it to you all quicker. We've added more restaurants and with the addition of Subway today, there's now there is one more to choose from! Subway has some some good breakfast and lunch/dinner options. I would suggest for a gluten free option the Roast Beef Salad with apples and milk.

Does cutting back on a little salt really matter?

Some of the jeatwell recommended meals are lower in sodium. Does it really matter???? Americans, on average, take in 10 grams a day. It is recommended by the World Health Organization to take in 5 g or less per day, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture

For Some People with Diabetes, Eating Well Can Be Difficult

One of the functions of www.jeatwell.com is to help individuals with Diabetes find healthy foods to eat when dining out. You pick the restaurant and we'll pick your best meal options. For some, healthy eating can be easy, but for most people, it is challenging. Especially when you need to also watch grams of carbohydrates and maybe salt and Calories too! “Diabetes is a chronic condition that requires a healthy diet to manage the disease,” says Enza Gucciardi, an assistant professor in Ryerson’s School of Nutrition.

Outback Steakhouse

Alright! So, it begins... If you searched before and couldn't find a restaurant close to you, try again! I just added hundred of locations of Outback Steakhouse. I found a few benefits to this restaurant choice. They give suggestions on their corporate website on how to cut Calories and sodium. So the adjustments on how to prepare meals (like without seasonings or sauces) are their suggestions. I wouldn't have suggested to make all these special requests without knowing that they are willing to do it. One meal that you may be surprised to see on my list of recommendations is the lamb.

PF Changs

Almost 24 hours live! All of the comments and feedback have been positive (although none of them were posted on the site, just emailed to me... but trust me, it was all positive). I just added PF Changs for those who love Asian food. It was requested by someone who just ate there the other night and wished the site had been up (you know who you are)!
